Do you know your exact tds or an estimate? I'm trying to breed them too and there's just no breeding behavior going on. Wondering if it's the hardness of my water since it's like 250ish, but my sterbais are doing great and breeding everyday in the same water.

They don’t eat algae… they eat micro organisms like shrimps etc etc… micro organisms eat algae and not one fish ever does

Put an LED light by your intake tube, then run the transfer pump at night. To prevent mosquito and dragonfly larvae I would use window screen to protect the tank.

Hey what’s up man. Old video, so I hope you can help with direction. So I just got into fish keeping a few weeks ago. I wanted to pick one fish I love a stock my tank. Albino Cherry Barbs RUclips videos blew my mind and I fell in love with them. My 15 gallon Flex tank cycled on Day 16 and I put in 2 males and 3 females. 5 days later and one of the females went on a mating frenzy today. I was not prepared for this one bit. I immediately went and picked up a floating plastic imagatarian breeding tank. But I might have been too late. And bought some dried cyclops powder food. (Her belly is smaller now) I think im ready for them breeding now. However she bred all day and I don’t know how long they will breed for? My two other females look like juveniles so I’m sure their time will come. The eggs are all over the place and I don’t have another tank to separate fish and eggs. I know they eat them. Any tips? I am super happy and thrilled my fish are breeding in this brand new tank!

a large water change a bit cool worked for me in the past, great video getting into keeping sterbai again since i finally am able to. just got a 40b and have 4 sterbai from a 15gail.. will probly buy 10 more. ill have to get pre filters and some worms to feed . ive collected eggs with my finger off the glass and transfered to a smaller tank to raise fry with good success

Great tutorial. A few details are missing tho. If you see a lot of daphnias with a black body, they are about to lay some protected eggs (these are the black dots that you can find in every daphnia tank) if there are many like this, they are telling you that water is about to turn bad and they need a water change. When times are good they are full of brown transluscent eggs and breed live babies. You can collect those black eggs, dry them on a sheet of paper and keep them to start a new culture after a crash. These eggs are pretty hardy, they can survive freezing temperatures and hot dry summer on a piece of wood. Water changes should be only for cleaning the bottom. Daphnias live and die so fast that the bottom will soon be covered with dead corpses. It spoils the water. Alternatively you can use a bunch of assassin snails or a bunch of cheap shrimps to keep the bottom clean. They won't attack daphnias. You could also use detritus worms to achieve this. Natute takes care of itself. The best way to feed that I found so far is one day yeast one day spirulina. Spirulina will make green water or an algae covered botton so overfeeding is less of a problem than yeast that will fall down, rot and spoil the water. I don't know where you buy your spirulina to find it expensive ? I've been able to buy a pound of it for 8$ Enough to feed for ... YEARS ahead ! Beware not to introduce any hunting predators in your tank. A single cyclop can reproduce and genocide all daphnias to the last in less than 10 days (happened to me). These can be found even in tap water in the form of microscopic eggs. That is why I use only rain water. If you raise daphnias outside, be sure to cover the tank with a screen. Dragonfly larvaes, and water bugs are also feeding on daphnias. They have to be kept out. Daphnias are living in the wild in foul swamps and are used to very acidic water. Tho they wont mind a higher PH I found they thrive more in rain water. It is true that a little chlorine won't kill them. But it still can hurt all the microscopic fauna that has developped in your green water and serve as food to your daphnia. Better not do this at all. You can add aquatic plants floating in the tank to help with oxigenation. Adding houseplants on top will suck up poisons. A piece of wood will help growing yummy algaes and microscopic organism that feed your daphnias. Again you have to be carefull about the introduction of unwanted predators so boil everything you wish to add in there . In fact you could even make your daphnias their own aquascape in a natural Walstad tank. They are pretty fun to watch and very interesting creatures with their behavior. If I didn't had a wife my daphnias would not be in the basement 😅 Have backup live cultures. Crashes do happen overnight even if you take good care of it. Or collect eggs but you will have to wait. Large containers give best yelds. Small ones crashes too often. They thrive more outside even without having to do a thing. If you raise them indoors it's a bit harder. Try to emulate their natural environment as much as you can.

Two ideas come to me, to get some more eggs. The mop is very narrow. So create more space between the strings. Then it is maybe easier for the female to find a goog hidden spot. If javamoos is used you can also let it hang from the surface. Maybe the eggs will be better hidden in the javamoos.

i want them to raise their eggs but after a day or two they always eat the eggs. i dont know why, there is plenty of live foods for them to eat. is it because of stress or something? should i not let them raise their fry?

one of the best youtube fish channels for sure! btw have you ever thought about doing wild bettas for the channel? there are some small mouthbrooding species which of course would showcase their nice reproductive behavior and can offer different difficulty levels, some very easy, some that can be borderline impossible (macrostoma). I'm currently trying to breed betta channoides and betta hendra with no success as of yet! your channel always inspires me to do things in a smart way so it would be nice to see your approach. the coccina complex species can showcase interesting social behavior for a betta, might be somewhat challenging in regards to water conditions and suitable tank decoration to get them breeding.

Great work! If you really want a challenge, you should try breeding Chili Rasboras. I don't think anyone has ever done it before.
